Letter book kept by Barrell containing copies of correspondence related to his activities as a merchant with his firm Gerrish & Barrell, especially affairs that were of more than routine interest to him such as the policies of the firm and attacks on his reputation. Letters are dated 1738-1743, 1751-1752, and 1759-1760. Included in the volume are pages devoted to poetry and other literary writings, some by Barrell, some likely by Joseph Green and others.
